Overview
The Gokyo Valley almost perfectly embodies the ‘far-off land’ dream for any mountain enthusiast. Adorned with pristine lakes originating from the Ngozumba glacier and surrounded by rugged terrain and spiky mountains, this valley features the tranquil Sherpa settlement of Gokyo village at 4800m by the Gokyo Tsho (the fourth lake from the North). This trek, less frequented than the Everest base camp trail, demands good fitness and acclimatization.
Gokyo Ri, at 5360m, offers one of the best panoramic views of Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. The trek reveals the vastness of the landscape, with the Ngozumba glacier feeding blue-green lakes and forming the Dudhkoshi River. Gokyo village appears as a cluster of small colorful dots perched along the ridge of the Ngozumba glacier. Sherpa hospitality further enhances the trek’s charm, and the lakes hold religious significance for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims.
This trek showcases a tranquil side of the Everest region. For those wanting to include Everest base camp and Kalapatthar, the itinerary can be customized to pass through the Cho-la pass. Check out our Gokyo-EBC package or get in touch to maximize your experience on this trail.
