Overview

You will begin your Manaslu Tsum Valley trek in Kathmandu, traveling to Sotikhola via Arughat. The journey starts from Sotikhola, where you ascend the Budhi Gandaki Valley through lush pine and rhododendron forests, eventually reaching Lokpa, the gateway to Tsum Valley.

The trek to Lokpa takes three days. Starting from Sotikhola, you’ll first stop at Machha Khola, then Jagat, before arriving at Lokpa.

Continuing from Lokpa, you’ll hike to Chumling, known for its three monasteries: Pango Gumba, Mani Dhungyr, and Gurwa Gumba. After an overnight stay in Chumling, you’ll make your way to Chhokangparo, passing through Domje, the largest village in Tsum Valley, and enjoying breathtaking views of Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal.

As you trek from Chhokangparo into the upper Himalayan valley, the landscape transforms from vibrant bamboo and rhododendron forests to serene alpine meadows and rugged mountain deserts. On your route to Nile, you’ll visit Piren Phu cave, the region’s most sacred site. From Nile, ascend to Mu Gompa, the highest point of the Tsum Valley trek, before retracing your steps to Lokpa to continue onto the Manaslu Circuit.

From Lokpa, head west to Deng, passing through the villages of Ghap, Rana, and Bhiphedi. Next, you’ll trek to Namrung, a village populated by Tibetan descendants. The following day, leave Namrung for Sama Gaun, with a stop in Lho to see its impressive mani walls and Buddhist Gompas. After passing through Shyala Village, you’ll reach Sama Gaon, home to the Sama Gaon Monastery.

You’ll spend a day acclimatizing in Sama Gaon, with options to visit Manaslu Base Camp, Birendra Lake, or Pungyen Gompa.

Larkya La Pass is just a day’s trek away from Sama Gaon. After a night at Dharmasala, you’ll rise early to hike to Bhimtang, crossing Larkya La Pass (5,160m) along the way. This pass offers stunning views of Cheo Himal, Kanguru, Himlung Himal, and Annapurna II, making it one of the longest passes in the Himalayas.

From Bhimtang, you’ll hike to Gho and then Tal. From Tal, you can catch a bus or jeep to Besisahar and continue on to Kathmandu.
