Everest Three High Passes Trek

Your 17-day Everest Three Passes Trek kicks off with a stunning 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m). The next day, after crossing several suspension bridges over rushing rivers, you’ll arrive in Namche Bazaar (3,440m), where you’ll spend an extra day for acclimatization.

During your stay in Namche, take the opportunity to explore shops, restaurants, and internet cafes, or visit nearby Khumjung Monastery. For breathtaking views of Mount Everest, consider hiking up to the Everest View Hotel.

After acclimatizing, you’ll set off towards Thame (3,750m), where your trail diverges from the classic Everest Base Camp route. Following the Bhote Koshi River, you’ll pass a small hydroelectric plant before reaching Thame.

The following morning, prepare for a demanding trek to Lungden (4,500m), a six-hour journey along challenging paths. Once in Lungden, you’ll then make your way to the Gokyo Lakes region, crossing the first of the three major passes: Renjo La Pass (5,435m).

At Renjo La, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Gokyo Lakes and towering peaks, including Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,481m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), and Ama Dablam (6,812m). You’ll spend the night in Gokyo, where you’ll acclimatize further by climbing Gokyo Ri (5,483m) for panoramic views of four of the world’s six highest mountains.

Your journey continues from Gokyo to Thagnak (4,700m), crossing the Ngozumpa Glacier and passing yak pastures along the way. The next day, you’ll trek to Dzongla (4,855m) via Cho La Pass (5,420m), which connects the Gokyo and Everest regions.

After crossing Cho La, you’ll enter the Everest region and make your way to Everest Base Camp, with stops at Lobuche (4,910m) and Gorak Shep (5,185m). On day eleven, you’ll set out from Lobuche to Gorak Shep, leave your gear, and hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364m)—an unforgettable achievement that showcases the harsh beauty of this remarkable landscape.

After your time at EBC, you’ll descend to Gorak Shep for the night. The next morning, you’ll climb Kala Patthar (5,555m) for one of the most iconic views of dawn over Everest before returning to Gorak Shep and descending to Lobuche.

The following day, you’ll trek to Chhukung (4,730m), crossing the final major pass, Kongma La (5,535m). Although challenging, the rewards of this trek are immense.

On day fourteen, you’ll leave Chhukung for Tengboche (3,855m), passing through Dingboche and Pangboche, with breathtaking views of Amadablam (6,856m), Everest, Nuptse (7,861m), and Lhotse. Don’t miss a visit to the renowned Tengboche Monastery.

The next leg will take you back to Namche Bazaar, navigating uneven terrain and lush forests where you might spot Himalayan pheasants, musk deer, mountain goats, or even snow leopards.

On your final trek day, you’ll head from Namche back to Lukla, crossing the Hillary Suspension Bridge and journeying through the Dudh Koshi Valley. After a seven-hour trek, you’ll spend your last night in Lukla, reflecting on your incredible adventure in the Everest region.

On the seventeenth day, you’ll fly back to Kathmandu, leaving behind the majestic Everest landscape filled with new memories and experiences. For a detailed itinerary of the Three Passes Trek, please refer to the section below.
